Stacy: "makes me burn up." Love the metaphors, but her cluelessness is a harsh condemnation of the only female character, not to mention her generic novel-for-young-adults monologue. This Bella Swanesque, pick-me, narcissist caricature needs to be rewritten entirely from lines to gender. Otherwise this is fantastic.

“you get what you pay for” after talking about the defense of the house……. we paid for the defense of america not for the infrastructure. not for the peoples good. we got what we paid for.. a dysfunctional system where people don’t cooperate or listen to issues leading to worsening problems that have no path back. ignoring the symptoms due to our own greed which lead to the same fire to burn it down.. but yet…. “we can start over tomorrow” we can always start tomorrow but we can never focus on today. stacy is the media, worried about her own preservation and telling her side of the story rather than actually being useful, the main kid is the heart of the people wanting to escape. darren is the metaphor of our own ignorance. the guy that relapsed is the activists trying to do better and yet under pressure get pushed back until “tomorrow”

This was genuinely the most entertaining thing to listen to in a while. It's written beautifully in each character and you can really feel the impending doom and helplessness in each point of view. And the way you deliver the lines had me hooked the entire time

I was okay until I realized that our main guy went up never knowing if Darren was okay. In the midst of a breakup and eventual fire, his concerns revolved around Darren for most of it. He goes never knowing Darren started and planned everybody's demise.

FIRE WRITING. This is great!! Actually made me sick n panic. I was captivated! N the fact that the character was described by others as "Never being there", "Looking out into the distance", and never really paying attention but he's the one who talks about the smoke first, which people jst ignore. The dad is horrifying. The character all are.

i see it as the current political state of the US. Darren is the president who is literally setting America on fire, and Mr Landry represents the people who voted for him, saying “we didn’t know he would do this” and “he didn’t show any signs” and i think Stacy represents those in america who blame others, like common people, instead of the government who is actually the one controlling everything.

The house being optimized for external threats and the father purposefully ignoring active warning signs from the house is a HAUNTING metaphor. The other people being oblivious 99% of the time also relfects their own intense focus on themselves and their issues, buzz, and development. In any other case that focus wouldn't be harmful but this was the time where everyone needed to be part of something bigger. To see beyond the smoke. There's other metaphors I can't articulate here. This is so well written.
