it should be up to the Taiwanese people. Taiwan has been run as a democratic country for decades. China can not achieve it's so called one china policy peacefully unless the people of Taiwan vote for such a thing. That seems extremely unlikely, and becomes more unachievable as time passes. Taiwan has it's own identity, completely separate from China. So, China’s only option is by force and that would come at extreme cost on many levels.
