if it’s a place with heavy graffiti and the graffiti suddenly stops around specific areas, don’t go in there. if you enter at all, stay where the graffiti is. sprayers are notorious for being fearless when it comes to their craft, if even they are noping out, you do too.

reminder that squatters will usually always give some sort of alert to drive explorers away from their homes. so hearing a noise doesn't mean "oh spooky ghost let's keep going!" it means "oh someone's in here, let's leave"

Less crime related things but make sure if you’re going upstairs in an abandoned building to make sure you know how rotted the floorboards are. There was an incident here years ago where some urban explorers fell to their deaths.

A good tip I learned is that the level of graffiti or thr type of graffiti could give you a definite tell of what kind of place this is. Silly drawings or swear words sure, but cryptic messages and symbols would tell me to be cautious or leave immediately
