Exactly the same happened to me on my maternity rotation. Mother refused for me as a male student nurse to be present during birth but allowed 5 male medical students to be there instead!!

Male midwife here was on call in the labour ward. Had a Muslim couple, wife was in labour and I was the only one who knows how to take delivery the husband refused that a male will not attend to his wife, I left and went to the call room and continued my sleep then I heard a huge bang on the door😂 I opened found the husband begging and pleading with me to save his wife and child quickly rushed to the delivery room and got the job done 😂😂

One of the most awkward points in my life as a male nursing student, my clinical that day was in an OB/GYN office. Nurse politely asked one of the patients while in the waiting room, IF they minded if I would be there in the exam room. That patient went off big time, screaming yelling. A simple no would have been completely OK with me. I had no desire to be there in the first place.

I almost didn’t get to do an OB rotation cause there were no patients that would allow a male in the room the day of my rotation (would have had to repeat the semester if i could not ge the rotation) last minute a lady came in and was cool with having male students. She delivered 4hrs later and i was the only student in my class that got to participate in a delivery. (It was during covid)

As a male surgical PA, the OR staff sees so many private parts we’re completely numb to it. Male or female, if you need a hip replacement we’re going to be putting plastic barriers and sterile drapes right next to your groin. Tourniquets for lower limb surgeries go right there also. It’s never discussed, nobody cares, we’re just going about our work days.

My OB rotation was in a relatively rural hospital with a sizable Amish population. 1/3 of the mothers on unit were Amish, so I was a hard no from them outright, and the rest of the mothers were rural women who also reused to allow me in the room. I spent my entire rotation either in the nursery or as a go-for for the L&D nurses. I didn't learn anything that was intended for me to learn from that experience.
