The only thing Goku never lost after hitting his head, was the indomitable Saiyan will to fight and get stronger. Goku also knew Gohan was stronger than both him and Cell, but a full powered Cell would push Gohan to a new level.

But the Sayains DIDNT do all of that... Friezas grandfather did. Goku wanted to push himself and felt that no one on Earth in Universe 7 so he hired Hit. Goku gave Cell the sensu bean cuz he knew Cell would try to blow up the planet if he was pushed into a corner. Just say you havent watched the show and actually watched it all. Just sayain....
