The catcher should not be standing there without a throw.

But the catcher should have known to not stand in the base like when someone is coming home stand behind the plate

cfrankum83 :
This is two-fold. 1) The runner had clear, albeit slightly obstructed, access to the plate. The contact was malicious and unnecessary. 2) The catcher was standing in front of home plate, but as no play was being made in that direction, he had no business being anywhere near that close to the plate.

Yes the runner shouldn’t do that. Intent matters. Also, it’s a broken wrist. It’s not anything to be this dramatic over. I broke both my wrists. It hurts but heals in 6 weeks.

No where near the plate, there was a clear path and he didn’t even have to run, he literally could have walked across the plate. That runner was raised horribly, will probably go no where after high school but the couch with a 6pack

Obviously this is a shorter video then the original. This a local 10u Indiana team (catchers team) In the original video one runner ran in a had the same clear path that the second runner had. That second runner ran into him and proceeded to the dug out high-fiving his team wile the catcher was screaming on the ground. The whole video is on FB.

catcher was in front of the plate. runner had room to tag home without or very little contact. runer leans into the catcher to hit him. yes the catcher was very close to plate but was not in the way. plate was uncovered. unnecessary contact

This is why the rule is there! No unnecessary contact!

Catcher shouldn’t be standing on the plate. Teach the kids the right way to play the game and things like this won’t happen.

Something to think about. Parents and coaches have ran off so many umpires that they are forced to do games solo. If there were two umpires on the field the home plate umpire would’ve caught this. It saying that it would’ve prevented this injury but it might have made the kid think twice about it.
