when I volunteered at a middle school helping students, I was told to give "slightly off" feedback. just off enough that it would trigger an B-C grade. and would encourage the kids to accept failure as a part of life. I always thought getting feedback was a natural part of a process, even the world's most intelligent scientists get feedback. but they framed it as a "They are just being overachiever and perfectionists and need to handle rejection and failure" so I would sneak good feedback via emails. if I told a kid "this is good! it barely needs adjustment" in class, I would send an email later and say "I totally forgot to mention. your sentence structure needs work and you forget to add a semi colon in the middle of paragraph 13"

This man gives you the exact corrections that you should make to the essay. I went to our campus's writing center multiple times to have it looked over and I still got 20 points off on grammar, vocab, and the same things that I had them help me fix.

When I entered a competition of a "best friend's essay" and 3 of the judges + my LA teacher (who I had to submit it through) said it made them tear up just for me to ONLY get 3rd 😒
