If people don't have insurance they can't afford primary care. They can't afford urgent care and urgent care won't see you without payment. The ER is going to be overflowing because people won't be turned away YET. Eventually that could change and it's terrifying. 😭

I wrote a paper on this in grad school. ER visits will definitely go up. uninsured people are already using the ED for primary care. as someone with health anxiety, if I lost my insurance, I would be more likely to go to the ED in the hopes of getting a full workup (labs, scans, etc.) to help ease my anxiety for a longer period of time.

If all these people lose their health insurance but don’t make enough to pay for insurance then there is going to be a big problem. When health issues arise they will go to the ER because that’s the only option for treatment.

There’s a lot of urgent cares in my area who are also not open outside of business hours or don’t take Medicaid. And then there’s the issue of dentists who won’t take Medicaid for adults and the closest to me is three hours away.

I completely agree. In my area we need more PCPs. PCP clinics need some kind of after hours triage, more available same-day/walk-in appts, more education.
