@redditconffessionss: WIBTA if I moved out a week early and took all the kitchen stuff (that I bought) without telling my roommates? Update Credit_ charlottedobreofficial #capcut #aita #reddit_tiktok #redditreading #redditstorytime #askreddit #charlotte #dobre #aita #storytelling #fypシ゚viral
I’ve lived this. Telling them will only result in your stuff gradually disappearing. They’ll start hiding things so you can’t take them.

I had a roommate who just wouldn't agree to any new places to move to even though we agreed to move together. after 3 months of looking at places & giving her suggestions, I tired of her indecisiveness and rented a place on my own closer to my job. I actually started in my bedroom/bath. Gotta the cops upstairs to help me move the mattress/box spring/frame. Then, she went home one weekend and my Dad came & helped me move EVERYTHING else...and EVERYTHING in the kitchen/living/dining rooms was mine. This was back before cell phones were common (I had one, she didn't) so going NC was SIMPLE. My move was completed 18 days before the end of the month. She returned to some of her food and her bedroom, but no place to sit, no TV, no coffee pot, no vacuum, and no mop. I took it ALL! I was friendly with management, had given my 30 days notice 35 days early and when I moved out, they inspected my part of the apartment so I was clear. Gave them the keys on Sunday afternoon before roomie returned from her trip. They told me she still hadn't given notice. They refunded my share of the deposit, in full. Reconnected with her on FB years later. She didn't mention anything. She lives a boring, do nothing life so I unfriended her. Never look back!

I had roommates who refused to clean and then talked badly about me all the time so I literally never used the common spaces because I was uncomfortable. About a month before we moved out I packed up all my kitchen stuff when they were gone for the weekend knowing they didnt have any kitchen stuff of their own. Then I heard them talking about how rude it was of me it was my stuff. To this day I do not regret a thing.

Don’t tell them. Had a situation like this. The issue happened bc they found an old paystub and found out I made more $than them. They decided I needed to pay more in all the joint bills. Mind you my company paid our electricity and internet- so those bills were free to them- i also owned all the furnishings they also used.

I wouldn’t tell them if they know you’re gone on a certain date doesn’t mean you owe them staying to that date. You can 100% move early you’re just responsible for the rent for the time but you nor your belongings are not obligated to stay to the last day

Telling them will only get them to damage or hide your stuff.

One thing I’ve learnt this year- DO NOT! Do not consider someone else’s emotions in an environment or situation where your emotions are not considered. Period! Be petty to those who deserve it.

I don't think it would be petty to move out a week early and take everything. i don't think that's petty at all. And it's not intentionally trying to harm someone it's your stuff and you can leave if you want. if they think it's petty in an annoys them all the better.

After a while I began storing all my kitchen items in my bedroom.. which was 90% of the kitchen items. I couldn't stand coming home and everything being used and dirty and I cant eat without cleaning first. I owned the vacuum, broom and mop too. Couldnt wait to leave.

How is it petty to take your own items when you move out? Actually leaving your items behind would burden your roommates when they move out and they would have to find homes for them donate them or lose some damage deposit.
