I admit that I was the less privileged and jealous friend while I was at school and even university. I always felt so resentful towards the affluent classmates - not even because they had more than I did (there is always someone richer and prettier out there), but because I felt like they looked down on me and genuinely believed that I am somehow below them. Only in my late twenties I managed to gradually drop this competitive mindset, and only in my early thirties I somewhat got rid of my addiction to validation that was ruining my friendships. I still believe that having friends and allies is wonderful, but we should all be careful who we trust and strive to be a better friend as well, because conditioning runs deep.

There really is no such thing as bff. So glad i released that fantasy. I recently went through one of the biggest betrayals of my life from my “bff” of 20 years. Whew. It taught me that people can cosplay friendship for years even decades.
