I would not go there as a citizen much less as a tourist! Is not about looking for trouble is about if you are tourist they might think you are rich or have money and you could get mugged.

It's not true. Tepito Is safe. Never in my life have seen anything about violence. It happens in the 70's. Now is safe

Quite safe. Like any big city in the world. There are very bad areas, But not even we go there. So yes, pretty safe.

Uber is definitely extensive in the touristy and wealthy areas. Mexico City is a beautiful city, probably my favorite city in the Americas (and I’m from the US). Not perfect but in general very safe.

Go to puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara, both pretty safe places, all be it there are of course some sketchy parts but they both have amazing food and people

everybody uses Uber in Mexico, in those areas they use the Didi app more.

Mexico City is safe I’ve been there before my advice is to avoid taxis and avoid problems and you’ll be good and I also recommend you visit the Angel of independence

Maybe was traffic, in general uber in Mexico city doesn't take that long, but you were probably in a hard to access area by car (slow traffic). Try to download didi. I always use both to see which one is closer to me, or also to check by price difference
