these comments have zero clue what they’re talking about. i literally work in the arts district, a block away from little tokyo. lots of places are still boarded up. just up the street from the plaza, the national guard is posted up at the MDC, where ICE has kidnapped people. there was just a protest two days ago.

Saw cosplayers walking through literally skid row (the neighborhood adjacent to little Tokyo) that area is overpriced and unsafe. Lots of people don’t want to go there anymore and the people who do are tourists who don’t know any better

Used to go all the time prior to 2020 then went back in 2024 and was hugely disappointed with what it became, a lot of businesses closed or replaced with shops filled with knockoffs, major price increases everywhere too….lost the hype a lot for me

I am local. I was there yesterday. It was still boarded up. Open and operating, but not as many people as you’d expect over the long weekend. For the locals who know, there was no wait for Daikokuya at noon.
