Skin is nothing more than a thin layer covering flesh. Flesh is but a mass of red meat wrapping bone. And bone… is a fragile frame that will one day be devoured by the earth. People praise appearances as if they were the essence of a person. But what they call a face is merely a thin sheet of skin over flesh. Tear it a little, mar it with a wound, or cover it in dust and blood — and all those praises vanish. Beauty is not who you are. It’s only skin. And skin… decays easily. I have seen many beautiful faces destroyed by time. I have watched those once adored for their appearance abandoned when wrinkles claimed them. On the battlefield, I’ve seen lovely heads roll, no one calling them ‘beautiful’ anymore. In the face of death, all humans are the same. What remains are bones. Black, white, brittle. No one can tell which bone belonged to a beauty, and which to the ugly. All return to dust. So then, what use is there in judging someone by their skin? Flesh rots. Blood dries. Faces fade. What endures is will, resolve, and strength. I care nothing for how fair your face is, how smooth your hands, or how sweet your voice. I look for firmness in your gaze, cruelty in your smile, cunning in your silence. That is what separates one person from another. The weak crave praise. They long to be called beautiful, handsome, desirable. They hunger for attention, hoping to live forever in the memories of others through their appearance. But I — I have no need for such things. My face may be scarred, my body wounded, but my will remains intact. I can lose everything but strength and purpose. This is the undeniable truth — beauty and ugliness are the shallowest, weakest things in human life. They are mere garments for mortal flesh.
