I think it’s true that a lot of romance is performative. And there are a lot of people, like my ex-wife, who will leave the second the performative dynamic changes (lost my well paying job). But that doesn’t mean that a romantic relationship can’t exist where it isn’t performative. It’s just such people are rare it seems. I haven’t totally given up but I will no longer accept the kind of relationship where I have to worry about it 24/7. I respect your view though, and I don’t think it’s wrong to not want certain things.
