Great tips! These checks are essential before making any car purchase. Always better to be well-prepared!

dealer website is pointless. 98% breach regs, so you learn nothing.

do you just go to the 2% that don't?

Is it still worth doing an HPI if you buy from a main dealer like Stoneacre or Arnold Clark etc?

always test drive it . if its already warm beware this hides stuff like leaks . as it won't be obvious until its cooled down .

I bought a secondhand car with 8K on the clock when it was 12 months old.Sold it 3 yrs later with 75K.
MOT says it has 32K. Don't trust DVLA.GOV

What about paying the AA to inspect if for you ? Or asking the dealer/ seller if he would mind if you did that on the phone to gauge his reaction

In my experience, when looking at the MOT, that no advisories for many years can be suspicious. A lot of people do dodgy MOTs with everything pass just to get the car on the road and so that they don't have to fix anything...

I do another one extra than this, check all the pics and see what tyres it has on it. especially for luxury cars. if they have ditch finders on then the owner in my eyes doesn't care as much about the car than id like

Thought HPI only shows insurance right off. It doesn't show a minor accident

Was about to buy a car but found out it was Cat N. Nothing on website. Nothing from dealer. Desperate for a car but don’t trust anyone!

trust a salesperson 😅 that one I struggle with. The last time I purchased a car on finance via a reputable garage, they added everything into the monthly payments (ie add ons they get commission on) I wasn't happy when I realised.

Check alloys, at £250 a wheel you don’t want to be saddled with damage
