@teachwithmrs.parks: Some of y’all are gonna keep struggling until someone tells you the truth. The classroom isn’t chaotic because the kids are “bad.” It’s chaotic because your systems are weak. But I’m not here to shame you—I’m here to help you fix it. First up, limit your talking to 10-15 minutes! Weave in movement, checks for understanding, call backs, etc during that time. Then give them a task—clearly, explicitly, and model it first! Then set a time limit on how long that task should take. Bring them back after a quick confirmation of what should be done by now, let them move their body somehow (move seats, walk across the room to turn something in, discuss with a student next to them, etc) then repeat. A loud classroom is not a “bad” classroom, it’s a learning environment!
