babes, they’re pushing out collagen supplements and bone broth when we have things like sinigang and bulalo that are whole foods simmered with bones - it’s literally a collagen and bone broth party!! + they just found out about the importance of greens and have things like powdered greens that you mix with water 😭 GIVE ME THE DAMN MARUNGAY LEAVES AND BOKCHOY! the avg americans need supplements because they don’t know how to cook and eat whole foods! their diet relies on convenience. so they find a way to extract it, process it, repackage it, and sell it with little to no reliable studies checking their nutrition claims. we don’t have to fall for that! we have a rich history. the tropical fruits, the veggies, living off the land and taking care of its animals - it was once so accessible and eco-friendly during our grandparents’ time. sure, processed meats came into play, but that was not always the history. pinakbet, tinola, kare kare, monggo… I can go on and on. I can understand that, traditionally, fattier cuts of meat are used, but these things are easily replaceable and upgradeable! if you want to really get the most out of filipino food and upgrade it to be “healthier” - you need to learn to make it at home and keep the flavor and palette of our ancestors alive! here’s my solution 👇🏽 1️⃣ opt for leaner cuts of meat and throw in a few bones (don’t worry, we can still enjoy fattier cuts, but maybe not as often as before) 2️⃣ UP THE VEGGIES x10000 (you think one string bean is going to be enough fiber? double that sh💥t!) 3️⃣ you can still eat white rice! but do your best to keep it to one serving per meal. *consult w/ your doctor if you’re diabetic* did you know filipino food is rich in whole foods? will you be willing to cook it at home? - #filipinofood #filipinos #filipina #filipinorelatable #filipinofitness #fitnesstips
