You dont have to be host, you just have to be the one that triggers him. I played w a few of my friends yesterday and went too far ahead, was the first one at the campfire and he appeared after like 20 secs because i was too far away from them. Died go him and got the badge as soon as he spawned

I brought the normal trumpet up with me and played it at the top of the first level when my friends were lower and he came so idk if you just need to make noise or what

does it give you the achievement if you blow the scoutmaster's bugle and summon him or is it only the distance summon?

you only need the horn if you’re playing solo. in multiplayer horn will spawn him regardless of distance from your teammates
