@dr.starkid: Curiosity has been the engine behind every discovery, idea, and innovation in human history. But in a time when misinformation spreads faster than facts, staying curious and grounded has never been more important. We started Curiosity Theory to create a space for real, accessible yet rigorous conversations about science, technology, and other important ideas shaping culture and the future. Hosted by @dr.starkid, a PhD astrophysicist and science communicator, and @mr.fascinate, an award-winning STEM educator. If you’re curious about everything from exoplanets to AI to the psychology behind how we think and connect, this is the show for you! New episodes out now. Plenty more on the way. Formulas for detecting exoplanets (like transit depth and radial velocity), calculating gravity and escape velocity, estimating how hot a planet is (equilibrium temp), how much light it gets (stellar flux), and even how fast its atmosphere is evaporating due to radiation! There’s Kepler’s Law for orbital motion, Hill Radius for gravitational zones, and of course, Einstein’s iconic E=mc². Basically, it’s a cosmic cheat sheet.

The Hill radius on top. Used to calculate the gravitational effect of a smaller body being strong enough to still have control over nearby objects. Think satellite orbiting the moon

I think one equation on the left side looks like an equation describing gravitational strength for a planet? Mass * grav constant over radius^2? Probably a little off; would love to know if so! 😁
