so I think Rockstar had ideas for a game when the gang was all together and someone (arthur) saved John I belive they didn't have any specifics (names of those who died in 1899 during rdr2 or who saves Arthur's life and turned to a good man) I think all they did was hint to lore when the gang was together before they broke up because all they had were ideas nothing written in stone which is why there are no specifics of anyone from rdr2

Its really sad that at this point in the story Arthur has become an old, bad memory. He's just a ghost from John's, he's been gone for 12 years or so at this point. It makes everything he did feel so pointless and inadequate. It always urks me.

If you genuinely think John would forget about Arthur, his own brother, the man who saved the life of him and and his family, arguably the best man he'd ever known, than you are far to young to be playing red dead.
