Harissa 🌶️is exclusively Tunisian. We also have a dessert with the same name, so to avoid confusion, the spicy chili paste is just called harissa, and the pastry is called harissa hlowa (meaning sweet harissa).

In Hungarian comes to my mind 4 cooking related words: Pörkölt, Főzelék, Rántás, Habarás. Because of the character limitations, I write next posts

In the Levant, I wouldn’t call it Harissa; I’d call it Shatta شطة, basically. I started calling it Harissa after I came to Europe because that’s the name used there, and it’s from Tunisia. It’s also a brand. It comes in small boxes of chili paste.

In Mauritania we call it El-Aych. العيش. It absolutely follows exactly what you about the pattern derived from the verb. معيش.

Was listening to an Italian girl making a pizza and I noticed the world for tomatoes in Italian is very close to the word بندورة. Are the two words related?
