I went through a similar situation with my kids dad. I ran and hid myself and all 4 kids, one of which I was still pregnant with. He'd beaten 5 month pregnant me with a railroad lantern and left me lying with my skull busted open in a driveway while or babies were in the house. Fast forward 11 yrs and he beat his then wife, cops came, he pointed a drill that looked like a gun at them and they opened fire. She blamed me for his death, saying keeping my kids away from him was the reason he beat her and his family blamed her for calling the cops. I reached out to support her the minute I found out what happened to let her know it wasn't her fault and she said it was mine. She had 2 kids with him. I lived in constant fear for nearly 2 decades and still felt guilty for feeling relief we didn't have to hide anymore.
