This puts into the words the thoughts I couldn’t articulate. I saw Montego today and this was the first version of Gypsy I saw, but I had seen clips of other roses. She was sooooo unbelievable. I feel like I need to see other performances to better appreciate this one.

I’m so glad I decided to see it tonight. I absolutely loved Montego’s take on Rose. It was one I’ve never seen before and, I suspect, will never see anyone else do.

Small point of clarification: audra is a classically trained mezzo soprano not lyric soprano…how do i kmow this? In Masterclass in the 90’s she sang a Mezzo Soprano role/song —“O Don Fatale” from Don Carlo a role written for mezzo soprano— In musical theater rep that means she mostly plays soprano roles though because musical theater rep is generally lower than classical operatic rep!
