During this long period, Cambodia absorbed and adopted many aspects of Thai influence — from clothing and cultural customs to palace architecture and traditions. Additionally, several Cambodian kings were educated in Thailand and brought back Thai styles in palace construction and royal ceremonies. This historical influence can be verified through various historical websites and records. During the Khmer Rouge regime, much of Cambodia’s intellectual heritage — including history books and scholars — was tragically destroyed. As a result, many Cambodians today are disconnected from their own complex historical roots. So, before believing any Cambodians who try to promote a distorted version of history online or on social media, we encourage you to do a quick search from neutral and reliable sources.
