So lemme fill in some blanks here. Hamsters try their best to maintain homeostasis within their diet. Just like people if they are lacking something in their diet, they will seek it out elsewhere. I.e when humans are low in iron we may crave steak. If hamsters are low in fiber they will consume their fecal matter to re-digest nutrients. Rabbits do the same, but they also have a different type of fecal matter as well that’s meant to be eaten for nutrients. Disgusting and fascinating.
