This is a HUGE problem in the anime/manga side of TikTok. There's this MASSIVE crowd of people who never actually watch/read the source material and get all of their knowledge filtered through content creators. It's why, for example, there are SO MANY people who think that the One Piece planet is anywhere from 50× bigger than earth to 10,000,000 tikes bigger. Because their content creators of choice told them so using a bunch of assumptions, napkin math, and misunderstandings of the source material.

this reminds me of how when i watched the first 2 eps of tlou season 2 having not actually played/watched the game outside of out of context tiktok posts and i did not understand people's beef w some of the changes being made so i made some kind of naive and declarative opinions before going and watching a playthrough post finale and realizing oh, no these people were not unfounded in their critiques and i was off the mark.

This has to be the case regarding Caitlyn and the Grey. If you watch the show it's clear she only targeted the chembarons and their operations. If you listen to the comments it sounds like she gassed every single Zaunite citizen.

in the anime world a lot of people watch the "abridged" comedy videos and form opinions on the media based on that.

I think the problem also is people who want to have complex and in depth conversations about arcane but they only watched the show as it came out and haven't rewatched it since then and there idea of what happened in the show is just based off of what they remember and what the fandom has made up

Sadly I see this all the time on arcanetwt and arcanetiktok. That’s why I had to step back and stop talking to people in this fandom, I swear so many of these "so called fans" don’t even understand the show, they just make stuff up and lie. It’s so exhausting 😭

I started to see this back when season 2 was airing. The takes were so clearly wrong and halted baked but they were always the same. A lot more than we like to realize just watched reactors and edits of arcane. It’s why they all end up sounding the same. Evb is getting them from the same 5 sources😭

that would be a good theory to why those tweets and tiktok’s get so many likes and engagement, these people jump on the hate and complaining bandwagon, especially misogynistic freaks when female characters are in the conversation, then misinformation spreads like wildfire

I try to avoid comments on tiktok under the most posts about stuff that I like, because, as it turns out, a lot of people who like the same thing as me are not just media illiterate, they’re just illiterate. the discourse that I see every single year is about Korra being a shitty avatar, and just each time I can spot how much people haven’t actually watched the show
