yeah. it's not the material globe. it's not a material planet.
it's a material PLANE

Can't you move the rod with a successful strength check? If that's the case, what is stronger than the rotation of the earth when compared to a human?

Even worse than that, all motion is relative, so what would happen depends on what the rod is immovable relative to. In your example, it’s immovable relative to something like the core of the planet, so the rotation would make it appear to fly off at 1000 mph. If it was immovable relative to the sun, then it would fly off at about 67,000 mph, and quickly leave the atmosphere as the planet rushed away from it. If it was relative to the galactic core, it’d fly off at almost 500,000 mph.

well yeah. Faerun is flat. it's when you start going to the other planes that weird things like a curved surface exist

That’s not how anything works. The reference frame for it not moving is the planet. There is no absolute reference frame so when you say it would fly off into space I would counter with ok where did it freeze in place in reference to?

if you include spell jammer it shows how each prime material plane is both an orb and infinite flat plane.

Doesn’t the D&D world have 7 planes of existence? And they are pretty much parallel to each other making them flat

it does not prove that, it proves the material plane is the center of everything with the sun orbiting it, otherwise like if on earth, an immovable rod would spiral into the ground in a corkscrew pattern for 'all' earths directions!

it's immovable, not stationary. You can't move it, but it doesn't mean it cannot move on its own.

New cursed item. the "Truly Immovable Rod". Once turned on randomly pick a direction. All people in that direction must make a dex save or be obliterated by a nearly light speed projectile that flies off in said random direction. do not forget to include up and down as possible directions.

Easy fix - It attuned to the world it’s on and remains immovable relative to the world it’s attuned to.

Not just fly towards the horizon. Depending on where you are, in relation to the path around the sun, that rod could also start tunneling through the earth as well.

Here's how I see it; once activated the rod projects a sphere around itself that attaches to as many solid surfaces as it can. it then anchors itself based on those surfaces which is why I'm my old dnd group my DM made the rod lock in place relative to the sail boat we were on

Well, using D&D cannon, what we learn in spelljammer is that gravity in D&D doesn't work like gravity in our world, every object simply has a field of influence based on its size and the biggest object takes precedent, it's reasonable to assume that the immovable rod functions by fixing its position within the field of influence it currently occupies
