@sebastianburka: Stability is one of the most overhyped things in the hypertrophy space. And when I say that, I don’t mean that factoring in the stability of an exercise doesn’t have any place. Obviously it does, & I’m sure most people can understand why that is. But when I say that stability is overhyped, I mean that if you’re one of those guys talking down on a movement like a cable extension, a pull up, a split squat, etc.. due to “instability”, then you have truly lost the plot. In a majority of these cases, the stability required from these exercises itself is really not an issue. Your inability to get better at them is the issue. And the difference between choosing a movement that requires a bit more skill in order to become more stable & one that requires less, is often negligible.

They haven’t forgotten. But if those people you are talking about payed more attention to stability and optimal exersises , then their physiques would be even more insane

Also what about literally every study showing no difference between free weight and machine hypertrophy? Do they have a reason for this I’m genuinely curious

if an exercise is stable, the target muscle will grow more. It will not grow a lot more but it will grow more. So why not just use the most stable version of an exercise if your goal is hypertrophy?

I get why stability could be better but people be over complicating it fr

I can only assume this in reaction to the guy who spent like 30 seconds trying to squeeze his arm under a bad and sleeve around a bench to keep it stable. All while holding the cable and basically just doing an isometric exercise while trying to get into position.

i have noticed the new wave of optimality causes some insane ego lifting, and people take an exercise, make it as “stable” as possible, then throwing their form out the window bc “stability for progressive overload mechanical tension is all that matters” completely ignoring the target muscle

noOoOo but if you wrap your legs around the pulley system and grab a bench and a wrap and another wrap you can stabilize yourself better!! Take up 4 different pieces of equipment to do your workout!!

Built almost entirely with free weights. Spoto press and paused bench are my main push builders. DB presses of various kinds at varying angle. People ego lift on bench then wonder why they have a bad chest, then move to machines using less load with perfect form and see progress. Form is everything.

So many people forget there is a ceiling on how much muscle u can actually put on your body they think that the likes of Ronnie Coleman could’ve put on more muscle if he trained a certain way. Ronnie and lot of bodybuilders had the max amount of muscle they could put on their frame. Any extra stability wouldn’t have done anything extra for them.

Are freeweights good for building muscle? Absolutely. Will it be the best option? No. || It is just objectively better to use machines because of less stabilization and coordination. But…there are people using 30 bands and seatbelts on already ENOUGH stable exercises…like a regular pushdown for triceps. You don’t need a band, belt, elbow, wrist wraps…(except if you have joint issues or you’re doing full stack + 5 plates). If you prefer it that way…do it, but it is just uneccesary if you’re not advanced or ridiculously strong. I do them on bench (Poliquin pushdown) just because I personally prefer them.

Chat its not ab free weights not working. Its about rate of change. You chose the exercises that best fit your body and lifestyle. Takes some self itrospection and it is not that simple. Pls stop oversimplifying the fitness lifestyle is very personal tbh.
