So, I read an article about this on Answers In Genesis, and it said that the Hebrew word day as used in the story of creation, translated into English, is the same definition of our word day, which is one 24 hour period. Which is why a lot of Christian’s believe it was created in six actual days. Idk if this helps or not, but that is why a lot of Christians think this way

I went to a Roman Catholic high school, owned and operated by the Archdiocese. We were taught evolution in biology class, and that the earth is billions of years old in geology. There is no doctrine that requires Christians to believe that the earth was made in six literal days or that the earth is only ~6,000 years old.

The six-day creation account shows God's sovereignty and intentionality. Understanding that God created the world in six literal days reinforces the idea of a purposeful Creator who brings order out of chaos. This sets the stage for understanding our place in the world. The creation account also shows us the importance of rest and work. God rested after creating for six days. This rhythm of work and rest is essential for our well-being.

If you want to hear a different perspective listen to Hugh Ross. He’s a Christian astrophysicist. He explains why he believes the earth is millions of years old. He could be right or wrong. I just like hearing others points of view.

Ummm we don’t, the oldest denominations do not have this 6 (24 hour) concept. To pigeon hold God’s actions to strict timeline is heretical because it reduces his eternal existence.

most Christians don’t believe this. catholics, orthodox, and most protestant all teach it to be allegorical. few protestant branches do require the belief tho, often as a means of weaponizing the bible on other contexts this is one of the first steps in high control denominations like baptist, evangelical, and other post “great-awakening” sects.
