i think that could be taken even further to include life in general sir, why are we considering “animals” (in apostrophes to emphasise the ridiculous word) less than humans as if we arent part of this animal kingdom ourselves. This sentiment that were somehow different from other animals is so erroneous and so small, if we were to accept that we are not detached watchers of reality but part of it no use of “dehumanising” language aka calling someone an animal wouldnt affect anyone because it would bring no connotation with it. i have not read your book, and id like to, so if youve mentioned this i apologize if not i hope youre able to understand.

My dad said I looked and acted like a pig between the ages of 10-13 for absolutely no reason amongst every other name you can think of but that one really got me badly and I would sob my eyes out in my room. I'm now 30 and will never get over it.

It really upsets me how people do not understand it. The main one now is “illegals”. People don’t understand that using that word is dehumanization. It’s a weapon. It excuses terrible treatment because they do not see them as human. They see them as an enemy, something to be feared and disgusted by.

Yes! and to take this further: when we keep the exploitation of animals normalised, we feed the system that is willing to keep itself alive by deciding who gets to live and die. its based in a disregard for life itself. serial killers usally start with animal cruelty, but the police does not investigate those crimes seriously. the dehumanisation through comparison to animals only works, because we think its normal to murder them.
