It sort of reminds me of NASCAR always having a caution with 10 laps to go. It builds drama of who pits and who doesn’t. Do you get tires and lose position? It’s creates a dramatic 5 laps shootout to the finish

reminds me of stoppage time in soccer which nowadays is common to see 4-7 minutes of time where only the ref knows how much longer the game lasts (as in the clock stops ticking obviously you can like look at your watch)

Coaching high school JV football, most schools won’t run the scoreboard so giving the two minute warning is huge

It goes back to when the time was kept on watches in the referees pockets. There we're no clocks in the stadiums and they had to inform the teams that the half was almost over

kind of like soccer they be like yeah its past 45 minutes but there's some extra time. How much time uhhhhhh maybe 4 but it can be 10 depending on how hopping the game is...

English Football and Rugby both use the ref’s watch to time the game. I played Rugby and we never really knew when the game was going to end. Play to the whistle.

It’s called the Two Minute Warning to warn everyone that the half is about to end. Very good when I played both ways and never looked at the clock

It started out as a literal warning for teams that there was two minutes left in the half. The refs used to keep game time and there weren’t stadium clocks.
