This why I stopped using Intel, their support of Israel is why I'll never buy them again

intel has never had a socket that lasted that many generations. Maybe lga775 but that was near twenty years ago, also the only reason why am4 was used for so long was because how wildly successful it was for amd, especially after the disaster of am3/am3+

A traditional intel manner since 2011 have a new socket at every two generations except LGA 1700 have 3 generations

wrong. am4 is technically compatible with 6000 series AMD CPUs (mostly only used in laptops) and the pinout is the exact same. so id you just desoldier a 6000 CPU from a laptop, give it pins, then somehow get a motherboard that supports a laptop CPU for some odd reason, it will work. so no am4 is not only from 1000 to 5000.

Not to mention, AMD is still making new am4 chips they’re basically giving most 5000 series CPUs a 3-D version which is fantastic

These are mostly gaming PC’s. ~55million gaming pcs are sold per year, now factor in pre builds, and laptops and you’re looking at a fraction of a fraction that buy loose CPU’s now the % that upgrades their cpu and not the entire machine due to ram or pcie, etc. Intel can refresh it every year and it doesn’t really matter just in the echo chambers of reddit

Weren’t they on the last socket the same for 4 series?

This cracks me up. It’s such a vanishingly small number of people who ever upgrade a CPU. I’m sure all 3 people who have done it will respond to this comment, but I would be stunned if it was even 1% of CPU buyers.

Intel is going to go out of business in the next ten years. Nothing they’ve tried is working.

forgot this was why I didn't go with an Intel CPU and why I don't like Intel CPUs so much.

I've had Intel for 25 years and have never once upgraded a CPU without upgrading the mobo. I usually upgrade both every 5-6yrs

Am4 is an exception. No one knows how long am5 will truly last (at least 2027) and am3+ was ~5 years. (But this was manufactured e waste so upgrades are pointless). If intel manages to have a Ryzen moment, it’s in their interest to support that platform.

I bought the Ultra 9 285K and it was the biggest mistake. Now I bought the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and I hope I won't regret it now

from a manufacturing standpoint it doesn't really make sense, I could understand if you were apple for example and every Mobo was Intel's and all profit was for them but that isn't true either

One of the many reasons I went AMD when I finally upgraded my aging 4th gen Intel system. Upgrading the CPU in it would have meant also doing the RAM and the motherboard. Even take something newer and say the RAM is fine, it’s still ridiculous to need a new board after 2 years.

Its all about gaming, both company fight for their own profit in different way. People choose AMD like gaming is a thing and easy to upgrade CPU
