It's still using the gpu even if it's connected to the motherboard output. the cpu integrated graphics will use the gpu power to render and pass it through to the igpu to display. Suboptimal but won't affect the performance massively. Also works the other way around, you can connect a monitor to your gpu and render on your igpu.

sorry, im not a pc guy. can someone clarify it ti me. so there are separate hdmi ports for the motherboard and gpu? and you should use the one conmected to the gpu?

some motherboards let you leverage the graphics card through the motherboard video ports though (with a minuscule amount of latency added)

I'm pretty sure for that high end of a card it won't be super noticeable to people who aren't Keen with Graphics and performance but it'll bottleneck a bit but it'll still work Fine especially anything not demanding

To people asking for an explanation. Most PCs come with very basic graphics integrated into the motherboard or CPU that can do basic stuff. The HDMI port for that is found on the motherboard. You can also buy a dedicated graphics card (GPU) that will be much faster. He has a 5090 which is the fastest gaming GPU you can buy. But if you want to use that you have to plug your cable into the graphics card. So basically he spent 3k on a graphics card he wasn't using and apparently didn't notice. Although I suspect this is a troll since you would easily notice

The thing is that nowadays you're basically losing nothing in fact this is going to add just a small overhead and you'll lose like 1-2% of total FPS. it's not catastrophic failure anymore😭

the video card will work even if it is not connected Windows can choose which device to use for games you can even check this if you have integrated graphics in the processor.

No, it's still using gpu.. I have a pc like that back then. There is an issue with my rx 580 so I have to put my hdmi through the mobo. Igpu outputs the video but gpu does the rendering of games and stuff.
