@gingerzee: Two things can be true at once… many NWS offices are running at a deficit in staffing (vacancies/buyouts) especially after Doge cuts. HOWEVER, the @nwssanantonio office who put out the timely watches/warnings the day before and morning of the Texas tragedy, were operating with their “surge staffing” protocol where they bring in extra staff because they know it’s going to be a big event. They had 5 staff instead of 2 that night. #T#TexasF#FloodingN#NWSN#NationalWeatherServiceS#Staffing

The problem was the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the San Antonio/Austin area took an early retirement after 34 years on April 30th. His sole job was to warn in the middle of the night. Alerts didn't go out until 7, the position is vacant, no one sent the Warning

I really hope they're looking into the Fire Cheif in Austin. He refused to pre-deploy resources to Curvil Texas because of cost. The union tried explaining that they get reimbursed by the state of Texas. He didn't seem to understand what that meant. His fireman are highly trained in flash floods. Guess why he was hired

There also were no warning systems that went out in the night. Abbott declined to pay for the alert system.

Trump’s DOGE cuts left key NWS positions vacant; trump was blackmailed by Epstein and Trump made zero deals in 90 days. Fixed it for ya!

I have taken kids to camps several times I was responsible for those kids if watch’s was out I stayed awake I’m in KS Tornado watch’s all the time. I stayed awake. Tragic very tragic. Prayers for families.

Thank you. I dislike it when there is a tragedy and one of people’s first reactions is to try to place blame. Sometimes…shit just happens. Not a Democratic issue…not a Republican issue. It’s a “natural” disaster.

I think it is important to acknowledge that there is no evidence that cuts related to DOGE had any impact on this horrible event. But I also think it is important to acknowledge that this particular area did not have an outdoor warning system that would have set off sirens etc. alerting campers along the river of the emergency event. That has been recommended after another tragic flooding hit while other counties implemented, this particular one did not. After we acknowledge the horrible loss, we do need to hold the correct officials accountable for their decisions . But it can’t politicized.
