THIS is what we mean when we say gentle parenting. You don’t need to yell you don’t need to belittle them or even bring physical discipline in to it. You calmly set boundaries and expectations. Trust that mom was NOT happy but she controlled her own emotions and delivered the consequences of his actions

One time a parent grounded one of my students from his tv remote. Not his tv but just the remote. She told him he could watch tv but it would be frustrating and annoying. Just like my job when he’s acting out. I can still teach but it’s frustrating and annoying. 😂

Always frame what they did as outside of their normal character and that lots of people do that bad thing. Life is hard. Connection is most important

As a mom/teacher - I hope you shared this with her. Both roles are HARD. 🥰

I called a student's mom to say she was talking badly about someone else's body. I said I'd like her to tell you about it herself and the mom said "no I don't need to talk to her and I'm sick of your childish teacher strategies and I will be talking to the principal." 👀

Yep my sixth grader got caught. He came home and told me. I told him that we all make bad choices sometimes but the pt of the assignment is to learn the material so he had to complete the assignment any way and then he volunteered to write a note card apologizing to the teacher for wasting her time and not trying to learn what she was providing. Natural consequence without abusive speech is gentle parenting. The other way is called permissive. Not the same. You will be a great mama

This is how I gently rebuke my husband. I don’t mean little stuff Ike all marriages have. But the bigger stuff when I can see that his emotions are getting ahead of his logic. I remind him of who he is, his character, what his values are and what our values are as a couple. I remind him who God created him to be and what he would advise others to do in the same situation. 100% so much better than being dismissive or shaming. Because all the things I say are true, he is wonderful. We all have trouble seeing that truth sometimes. And a good man will hear your heart and realise you only want what’s best for him and see the love in that rebuke.

does anyone ever ask their children first what happened? what led to that choice? does any parent question to understand the behind thought process?

we ask ourselves a lot, "How does this uphold our family culture? how can this be a learning experience?" and it's made us super non traditional parents but our kids trust us with EVERYTHING

Hey, thanks for sharing. Question though… why as teachers do you typically phone mom? I know those kids have dads too, right?

Yes! As a HS teacher I had a parent phone call that was similar…and it also shaped how I parented.

I almost cried a bit, raising kids to be good people and near well-balanced (cuz balancing all the way is perfection & not achievable)adults on their own journey in life IS TRULY HARD.

I also think its important to acknowledge that this WILL happen and you need to be prepared to act accordingly. All kids mess up and make bad choices. We have to be the adults and see ahead and around those corners and be armed with a calm and emotionally regulated response.
