This isn't just a pack, this is a family mourning over (my opinion) a female packmate & my guess is it's the Alpha female! The reason I say this is 1) Wolves mourning howls are typically individually/solo. 2) You can hear the same Wolves throughout the video & not multiple pack members. If you listen closely you can hear a single elder (most likely the Alpha), then the juveniles & the pups shortly follow! Just my opinion from growing up with these majestic creatures, I by no means am a wolf biologist!

Their probably not grieving. They harmonize to make themselves louder, they probably see her and they most definitely smell her if she’s downwind from them but sounds more alike they were alerting the pack that someone’s near

That is so cool I got to hear the Mexican grey wolves in Arizona a few weeks ago when me and the hubby went camping we tryna find them to take photos I’ve seen 20+ already in 6 months

Sounds like a rally howl - wolves will howl to bond and socialise before and after a hunt or sometimes just because they feel like it! Wolves will also howl to contact each other from long distances or use their group howls to ward off other packs and mark their territory. Very cool experience!

We had an elderly wolf come to a park and would not leave it looked tired. Cops came tried to shoo it away fired shots nothing, another wolf came to sit by it and howled just like this. The cops had to shoot them both
