…to haul out your colorful antiques for the holidays & watch how they can transform a room! I hauled out some of my red quilts today & this art that I’ve never shared with you that I picked up at an antique shop recently. Someone framed a piece of an old tattered quilt & I love that it’s beautiful art in our home now & not in a landfill somewhere! One of my favorite ways to bring in holiday color without overwhelming a space is by leaning into the pieces I already love: my antiques. There’s something so timeless about mixing old treasures with seasonal decor the patina, the textures, the faded colors they all tell a story and add warmth in a way new decor simply can’t. For pops of color during the holidays, here are a few of my go-to pieces: • Vintage Books: Stack a few red or green cloth-bound books on a console, coffee table, or mantel. The worn spines bring in the softest, most nostalgic Christmas color. • Antique Quilts: Drape a quilt with hints of red, burgundy, hunter green, or mustard over a chair or ladder. Folded in a cabinet or displayed in a basket, it adds instant charm and warmth. • Old Crocks & Pottery: Look for pieces with blue stripes, green glazes, or soft earthen tones. Add greenery, branches, or twinkle lights for a simple seasonal moment. Or even to pop a tree in! • Vintage Art: Swap one everyday piece of art for something with winter tones—deep greens, snowy landscapes, or worn gold frames that feel extra festive this time of year. • Colorful Ironstone & Enamelware: A soft red stripe on ironstone or the perfect vintage green enamel pitcher can add just the right pop of color on open shelving or a kitchen counter. • Old Textiles: Think grain sacks, linens, or rugs with muted red stripes or tiny green details. Layering textiles is one of the easiest ways to add color while keeping things cozy. Using antiques for holiday color feels effortless because nothing matches perfectly yet everything blends beautifully. It’s collected, it’s personal, and it lets your home celebrate the season in a way that feels uniquely yours!
