As a POC, I believe her apology was genuine. I am heartbroken about what has happened, but I also believe people can change. She’s one of the few celebrities who’s been outspoken about Palestine, immigration, and so on. At the peak of everything going on with immigration she was being outspoken (and still is) about it, while other celebrities like Sabrina and chappel were silent and were more focused on promoting their music. She also took full accountability of her actions without trying to make them look small like others do.

people really need to start learning the difference between reasonably criticizing something wrong that someone did and actively trying to ruin their career…like it already got out any damage that it’s going to do is going to happen regardless at this point (especially since according to the comments she initially deleted some videos and deactivated???)

Absolutely! While I do believe she’s changed, that isn’t my place to say! I’m not the one hurt by what she’s said. Regardless of change, it’s more than valid for POC fans to ask for a dialogue and express their opinions about it!

3 students in the entire school (of 2500) happened to be black & all in my grade; two were popular so ofc they “popular” (token black friends so white ppl could leech off of them) and one dude, Justin, was my personal friend. Everyone called him “black Justin”…we had 1 other Justin & he was a white football player. After he said everyone to stop joking & it wasn’t funny, they still called him black Justin & never stopped. I NEVER called him “black Justin” bc he was just JUSTIN! A funny, clumsy, weird dude that I loved - and that’s why what Ethel did IS that deep!! Racism is still SO RAMPANT IN SCHOOLS, businesses; everywhere!

now what she did is awful but did she take accountability, yes. I've been a long time fan of her work so this whole situation was devastating. I'm hoping this can be a learning process and an experience where accountability is taken as humans we all do things we regret racism is not something I've ever committed but I'm sure if she could take back her past she would 💔

Plus she’s been heavily criticized by the Jewish community for years for having those Hebrew tatts on her forehead as an entire Christian and her fans getting the same tatts without knowing what it meant at all… like the criticism of her being a weirdo is not new at all 😭
