@dr.benaduce_explains: 🧠 Neuroanatomy: Part 3 The Meninges: Our Brain & Spinal Cord’s Personal Bodyguards! 💂♀️💜 Our central nervous system doesn’t just sit there unprotected. It’s lovingly wrapped in three special layers called the meninges 💫 Think of them as a hug of protection, cushioning, and care: 1️⃣ Dura Mater: “Tough Mother” 💪 The outermost and strongest layer. It’s dense, durable, and ready to defend. 2️⃣ Arachnoid Mater: “Spider Mother” 🕸️ The middle, delicate layer with web-like fibers (arachnoid trabeculae) that create a dreamy space below: 🌊 The subarachnoid space: where CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) flows, cushioning and nourishing the spinal cord like a gentle current. 3️⃣ Pia Mater: “Tender Mother” 🌸 This innermost layer hugs the brain and spinal cord directly - following every groove and dip. It’s so thin and intimate, you almost don’t see it… but it’s always there 💜 💉 BONUS TIP: The subarachnoid space below L2 is where we safely access CSF during a lumbar puncture. No spinal cord here - just dancing nerves in CSF! 🎬 Video edited by @anammaji_ #wittyanatomy #drbenaduce #anatomy #neuroanatomy #anatomy101 #premed #meninges
