Honestly can’t blame them. my current employer just had 8 people walk out cause of working conditions.

For context the mayor gave herself a better wage increase than was offered to public service workers. You think anyone would miss her if she quit for a week? For this very reason I'll stand with the unions

a manifestation of the integrity and morals within the political leadership. This is nothing compared to the streets of homeless addicts. those documentaries break my heart. Tranq has taken over parts of Philly and its just heart breaking.

More people should be doing this. Teachers. Waiters/waitresses. Retail workers. Immigrants (with/without citizenship) - especially those in farming, construction & hospitality. People who are overworked/underpaid or being asked/forced to endure unethical/unsafe business practices should walk away (or step away in unison to force the conversation) more often. We all deserve better. You can whine about how unfair it is for citizens, but citizens need to understand the significance of the strike, as well & the need for things like higher taxes to support fair wages of City workers & contractors at this level. This proves how absolutely essential these particular workers are to the City. It may seem selfish, but this is setting an example and a standard for EVERYONE. That’s why it’s necessary.

Just like Congress, same thing. Take from us tax payers just so they have the best healthcare and salaries with our tax dollars. Life long salaries and benefits

Huh...What :
No elected officials should be able to give themselves a raise. Should be voted on just like their job was.

So...this mayor really believes letting her citizens live in filth is a better choice than paying city workers what they need to exist and maybe even survive? Greed at it's finest.

FOR CONTEXT: if the average worker made $30 hrs x 8 hrs = $240 day. they're asking for 8% raise or $2.40 hr raise/ $19.20 day (based on $30 hr + 8 hr work day) minus 25% tax on increased wage = $14.40 day. Are they honestly willing to lose $1200 week for a "proposed" $72 week increase. Has anyone done the math for them?
