An X-ray was all it took for my ortho to determine that I needed a hip replacement due to osteoarthritis. Same for my knee. With those joint replacements behind me I lam now pain free. I hate that it hasn’t been that simple for you and I hope you find the solution to your pain soon. If joint replacement is required then face it optimistically- attitude is everything. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your info. I lost over 150lbs nearly 20 yrs ago. Have had both knees replaced. Now never sure if pain is hip or sciatica. Pain isn’t enough yet for the ortho office. But it will happen eventually.

Look into Egoscue. It’s amazing how these trained pt professionals can determine simple exercises that will correct issues without surgery or shots. You can do Zoom calls and you receive instructions with videos after each session. I’m avoiding surgery at all costs. It’s not covered by insurance but I didn’t care. So much can go wrong with surgery.

I have the exact same thing going on. I’m seeing a myofascial massage guy to work out adhesions in my right hip, which is higher and further back than my left hip. It’s a process.

I had the injections also. They weren’t too bad. They numb your hip which was nice because I didn’t have any pain coming out of doc office since I was numb. I wait about a week and so no improvement and had the hip replacement. Hope this helps

Do pt but also get 2nd opinion. I went to 4 hip drs and each told me different and they viewed same mri. Check out PRP injections too.

I had 2 herniated discs and bad sciatica years ago. The shots did not help. Physical therapy, walking, and time helped. I try not to sit a lot, triggers sciatica.

I had the injection and it made pain better. I did get a hip replacement and it’s fine now.

I had that injection done and my pain has been gone since. I'm 70 and had hip replacement 5 years ago but had lingering pain so the injection eliminated that pain.

I hope the easiest solution works for you! I had a hip replacement on 6/18. I was terrified! It has been one of the smoothest recoveries that I’ve gone through! My pain was instantly gone! I’m almost 3 weeks out and doing awesome!

How long do they think the physical therapy will take to start showing improvement?

Sounds positive so far. I had a torn piriformis which healed. But patience is needed and to be mindful not to push through pain. Sending you quick healing vibes

If I were a betting woman, I would say Sciatica. My husband has it and the pain goes down to his ankle (and makes his foot tingle). I, on the other hand, have had piriformis syndrome and have had injections for it. My pain didn’t go past my knee. I’ll be curious to see how this goes.

Yeah they told me piriformos too, went whole year in pain with physical therapy and finally got a 2nd opinion. Definitely had to have my hip replaced and I feel like a new person. Just ps my first symptom was plantar fasciitis, then butt pain, then couldn’t even walk. The shot made it worse. Good luck to you

I had a very similar situation. I went to a pain management dr and got an epidural which helped with pain dramatically! I also did pt but in the end I needed a hip replacement. And my pain was never in my groin. Always in the back of the hip/butt area.
