“I love them in a primal way, the way an animal does” that just clicked a lot of things into place for me

You grieve abusive parents long before they depart this earth, you grieve parents you never had.

I’m always amazed at people who interview people and ask a question with the answer that they are looking for. Luckily Ruby wax has always been brutally honest. To be a great interviewer, you actually have to really want to know about the other person.

Being an only child of parents that have a dysfunctional or unhealthy relationship in my opinion is way worseee than having siblings and struggling financially, at least you have each other in that situation for support… but it’s very isolating being an only child when your parents are volitile towards each other, then when the verbal attacks are directed towards you- they still somehow always back each other up 🫣🤯 and you’re just there experiencing everything on your own with no siblings to support you, you feel so unheard.. didn’t enjoy it personally

THIS… I mean similar but not as intense. My parents ever since I was old enough to leave the house, made it very clear they’re only arsed about seeing me or their grandchild 3 or 4 times a year & that’s enough for them. Otherwise their schedules are “very busy” 😅

I didn't so much hate them but I certainly had no respect for them, felt no love and didn't like them as people. don't mourn them and felt relieved when I eventually found out my father had died.

love her honesty about her parents, more people should be honest like this. my parents were similar to hers. I cried more when my dog passed than my parents. when last 1 passed. I called my older sister and said we're finally free.

I feel you there Ruby, I won’t have the burden of missing my parents because they didn’t have the burden of taking care of their child.
