@cheyennehuntca: Today, the Trump administration announced that the IRS will no longer enforce the Johnson Amendment. Passed in 1954, the Johnson amendment prohibited tax exempt religious organizations from endorsing political candidates. This move creates a significant financial loophole which could allow the ultra wealthy to funnel money to candidates while writing off those funds as “donations”. #news #politics #lawyer
This might backfire see the reason they made this rule was against the black church’s power

Sadly, I don’t think it’s ever been enforced. As a pastor, I can tell you that any church advocating a repeal of the Johnson Amendment is a church you shouldn’t attend.

Dems in or running for office need to keep a comprehensive list of every violation of the constitution trumps admin has committed due to amendment vagueness, loop holes, or SCOTUS corrupt decisions and commit as their number 1 priority when controlling all branches of government to define without question and close off loopholes in amendments to prevent SCOTUS from forcing right wing biased alternative interpretations on us that's destroyed everything that was great about the US

Many churches already have a problem retaining members. In today’s highly charged environment, making political endorsements from the pulpit will cause more members and believers to leave.

If it’s upheld by SCOTUS, there are churches happy to funnel to progressive candidates.

all churches should not be supporting a certain candidate if they are actually doing what's right

Did the Trump administration completely miss the fact that the Catholic Church has taken a fundamental stance against the GOP because of Trump and the actions of the party under the current administration? This is a shortsighted and very fools plan for a litany of reasons...

Interesting how this happened a few weeks after the southern Baptist convention just voted unanimously to endorse efforts to overturn Obergefell vs Hodges.

I'm honestly surprised this is just now happening. I remember a few churches got in trouble for this over the past 2ish years, so this is an easy priority for them

oh lord. this is not good. we know why hes doing this. there needs to be restraint on money candidates get in general. its seeding more and more greed from people in power and giving people who dont care about our national community at all, not one bit. this must stop
