Mrs. Kirkland mirrors Mrs. Russell in terms of wanting their children to marry for position in society. The Kirkland just don’t have that kind of money. Mrs Kirkland is apart of that Blue Vein Society mentality and like White folks, lineage is extremely important. She kept talking about how her family had been in Rhode Island as free people for generations and she can trace her ancestor back to the Revolutionary War. I was so excited for the show to return and 3 episodes in, it does not disappoint.
