Honestly, I can see Oda's point for defending him. That's been someone that essentially changed the lives of not only Oda, but many other mangaka. Japan is extremely different in culture if you think about it as well, so the things he did are probably not as big in Japan. So Oda would naturally stick with his best friend for something that he and many others would deem "Bad, but a mistake of a human."

Genuine question here. I read on the one piece wiki about odas life. And there is only mention of him being friends with the other assistants from the work place. As far as I read he has distanced himself from from the PDF file. It’s also important to recognise that japan doesn’t have the same way of thinking as the western world. And that they don’t want to have conflicts out in the open and usually care a lot about privacy. I will say it is terrible that the PDF file still gets recognition for his work. But the other mangakas can’t do anything because of the way they were raised. The older generation of mangaka might have a tougher time to be publicly in conflict especially with someone who trained them. Personally I don’t think oda likes the pdf file. He has a wife and two daughters, and if I were oda I would be angry. We can’t judge this like an American celebrity brawl that’s all out in the open and constant drama. They handle things differently. So question is, does anyone know of odas actual opinion of the matter? (I am not in any way defending anything in the situation as I agree it is rather odd to see things like this not spark huge conflict.)
