1. Get over the fear of drowning. Show them how to naturally float. 2. Work on blowing out bubbles underwater. 3. Holding the wall and the kicking. 3 a. Kicking and combine with head in the water and blowing bubbles. 4. Once they’re comfortable with that have them swim in the shallow end and teaching breathing pattern, alternating sides and breath every 3 strokes. 5. I would then work on the technique of the strokes and then have them try to do a full length of pool. Things to get: a buoy, googles, and a kickboard. For your “friend” tell them to get a swim cap so they can put their hair up 😁

I was a lifeguard for two years and it really depends on the person comfort with the water but if they are comfortable a good place to start is floating (learning to starfish and kicking)

Well when I was younger I went to a swimming class and then they basically would dunk us underwater when we weren’t expecting it 😁 and then they would hold us under for like 7 seconds before we came back up 😭 idek how this actually taught me how to swim but it did! Soooo

The number one thing is to get comfortable. Start with shallow water and feel the way your arms and legs work through the water

swim instructor here! relaxing in the water is the main battle. then work on your floating. it’s easier to swim when you know how to float. feeling comfortable with your face, ears, head in the water. kicking and arms working together

I would be able to help this friend out by going with her to the pool. Just teaching her the basics until she feels confident to swim on her own.

When I was a kid my dad took me out to the middle of a lake and threw me out of the boat. Learning to swim was fairly easy, getting out of the bag was the hard part.

I had to teach a friend and I had him hold on to the edge of the pool with both hands and kick while taking intermediate breaths to teach coordination of both. For arm movement I had him stand in the pool and just practice then hold onto the edge parallel to it with one arm and combine kicking, breathing and movement of one arm to coordinate it all and do the same on the other side. Eventually he did it all and swam laps in the shallow end. For floating make sure breathing is relaxed and puff out your chest to be more buoyant. Before anything though learn to tread water because that reduces anxiety a lot when first starting out
