@mindfoodsteph: BPD or CPTSD? Or… both? Many people with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) have experienced trauma. People with Complex PTSD (CPTSD) may be misdiagnosed with BPD. Why? Because the symptoms often overlap. Here’s what they have in common: • Intense emotional responses • Fear of abandonment • Trouble trusting others • Flashbacks or emotional flashbacks • Self-destructive coping • Unstable relationships Key differences: • CPTSD is rooted in chronic trauma, often in childhood, and includes deep shame, dissociation, and a persistent sense of threat. • BPD often involves identity confusion, intense mood swings, and impulsive behaviors. These are frequently linked to early relational trauma. It’s not about choosing the “right” label. It’s about understanding what happened to you so you can heal. Trauma-informed therapy (like DBT, EMDR, or parts work) can help, regardless of the diagnosis. 🔁 Save this if you’re on a healing journey ❤️ Share to support someone who might feel misunderstood 📲 Follow for more compassionate, evidence-based mental health content.
