plastic nerd here. he’s right. pretty much every synthetic polymer uses oil as a base. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or ABS plastic, most common type of plastic, used in cars, lego, consumer products, everything. has a base of polybutadiene which is one of the most common rubbers and has an oil base. Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC is common in pipes. based on salt and oil and some other chemicals to make it stronger or flexible. Polylactic acid or PLA common in 3d printing, medical devices, food containers, and more. it’s biodegradable and plant based, it’s made up of corn starch and sugar cane, that’s harvested with diesel vehicles. Polyethylene PE is used in plastic bags, bottle caps, jars, a lot of types of resin, made of natural gas or oil. acrylate polymer or polyacrylate or acrylic, common in fake nails, pretty much anything plastic that’s clear, made of methyl methacrylate which is made of oil. you can’t escape it. there’s my rant. if you made it this far you deserve a star :)
