Nokia has announced that Cybernet, a leading fiber broadband provider in Pakistan, has chosen its state-of-the-art 1830 Global Express (GX) platform with integrated optical line system and ICE7 coherent optics to build a new long-haul Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) network. This next-generation infrastructure is designed to deliver up to 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) per wavelength and will initially connect more than 25 cities, offering over 50 Tbps of long-haul capacity nationwide. The network will support Cybernet’s national backbone, enabling high-speed, low-latency, and scalable connectivity for data center interconnects, enterprises, carriers, and its flagship broadband service, StormFiber. With this deployment, Cybernet aims to meet increasing bandwidth demands while maintaining competitive cost and energy efficiency. Cybernet, which serves enterprise, corporate, residential, and international telecom clients, is investing in this upgrade to expand capacity across diverse, resilient routes and establish a terabit-scale backbone throughout Pakistan. The network will also enable cross-border transit services to Central Asia, boosting regional connectivity. “This upgrade allows us to stay ahead of our customers’ growing connectivity needs and deliver an enhanced user experience,” said Maroof Ali Shahani, Chief Operating Officer at Cybernet. “Nokia’s expertise and innovation make them a reliable partner in achieving our modernization goals.” James Watt, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Optical Networks at Nokia, added, “We’re proud to support Cybernet in transforming Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
