My mom had me and ain’t tell me about anything. Not how to apply for a job or college or even how to get a Id I had to do it all myself and I still have to do everything myself and she complains that I’m not on track with my peers like OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE TWO LOVING PARENTS HELPING THEM

You easily have access to way more resources available to you than your parents did.

what they fail to realize is although you didn’t get the tools and help from your parents you decided to have children so YOU know how to do that work to learn and gain those tools for them instead of deflecting bc it then just recycled. if you don’t wanna learn don’t have kids simple

I say this as someone who’s cut off their parents. I think most of them made the best of what they had, but simultaneously they settled for less their whole lives, and since they have tangible proof that they made it by regardless, change seems foreign to them. In their eyes, the way they did it was the blueprint because it worked, even if the results was broken kids & barely functional homes. It’s truly a ‘can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ type of conundrum, which is sad for the sake of our community

This is the manipulation of a lot of Black parents—they’re fully aware of their failures and want YOU to take the blame for it and forgive them. They want YOU to give them a pass and shoulder their burdens and ignorance. They know exactly what they’re doing to which is why I don’t have sympathy for any of them. They want their children to suffer and not experience any consequences by design because they’re allergic to real responsibility and accountability.

between them having you and you being a teenager/young adult, they had ample time and resources to learn and grow. I'd rather them just say that they're stuck in their ways.

My thing is … if they complain and know they are miserable why not change? Why not try and learn how to grow? Instead of keeping a generational curse:(

You have to start looking for better resources/women who aren’t in your family. There will still be things you need to know in your 30s and 40s that they don’t think they need to tell you bc at that point ‘aren’t you old enough to know’?! Literally made me think I was crazy meanwhile it’s peri-menopause… something they JUST experienced. I had to find out on my own. Everything on my own… I’m going to be that resource for others.

Hey cousin. I'm 33 and I will give you some advice if I may. Apply for jobs you are not qualified for, somebody will take a chance on you. Develop as many skillsets professionally as you can that way you can work in multiple fields. Don't be afraid of credit cards, keep usage to 30% and pay the bill before it comes. Hormone issues are diet related so eat stuff that comes out of the ground and take supplements and work out. It does wonders for your mental health. It's ok to cut your parents off. Get a hobby that makes you happy and don't be afraid to try new things. I hope this helps ❤️

Yeah but unfortunately a lot of them are people who are stuck in their ways. It’s runs so deep that they won’t even learn new things cause they’ve never been good at it their whole life. Sometimes I feel bad cause it’s really a victim mentality at the root. U gotta put in some effort to control your life and grow but some people are content with getting by… then they have kids

Lmao! They want us to be sensitive to the fact that they had kids without being able to care for them and it’s not our fault. 😅😅

tbh choosing to have kids and not actually parent your children other than fear tactic discipline is a personal fault for them. not what their mother/father didn’t do for them. having children is a conscious decision they really could of just not.

my mother never took us out to do fun activities as kids and we didn’t travel either, it really stunted me as a adult because i didn’t realize how big the world really is. when i bring that up to her all she says is i did my best mind you my grandma did most of the raising.

My mom uses the line “ well my mom never taught me so I shouldn’t have to teach you”. So just because you had to struggle I have to struggle too. 😑

The same adult who raised you rarely matures with age, they remain stuck in time reminiscent of lies of how it used to be. They refuse to learn, to listen or show an understanding to grow closer. It’s actually pathetic how toxic the cycle repeats.

it's a choice that they're making.. cause I know once I feel pain , strife , or inadequacy, I would not allow anyone I say I love to go through it or put them thru it ..it's about being intentional 💯
